- Kg7 — Here Black can capture the pawn or promote their pawn to a queen.
- h4 — The situation still seems hopeless for White.
- Kb6 — If Black after Kg7 attacks the White pawn.
- Kf6 — The White king uses the geometry of the board and approaches both his own pawn and comes a step closer to the Black pawn simultaneously. It is not necessary to move in a straight line.
- Kf6 — The white king goes to f6 and either catches the black pawn or defends his own pawn, as shown in the main line.
- Kb6 — Black decides to attack the pawn.
