Mad piece — a technique to achieve a draw from a losing position.
- Rb3+ — By giving checks to the enemy king, White tries to get rid of the rook. Now if the black king goes to move along the "a" file, then White's rook pursues the king with a perpetual check along the "b" file.
- Ka4
- Qxb3 — If Black takes the rook, the position on the board will be stalemate.
- Kxb3 — In this case, too, the white king has no move: stalemate.
- Rb4+
- Ka5
- Rb5+ — Perpetual check.
